Dean, in makin the deal, did the ultimate thing for Sam, saving his life - and dying for that, he did something Sam needed, and wouldn't have to face a life with Sam where they ever grew apart again - he'd leave Sam with this, this final act.
And to be back, after giving all of that, and feeling like his brother can do without him, has been...It's a punch to the gut, hard and swift.
But Sam, too...
Gah. All alone. What else did he have left after Dean? Dean, part of him, flesh and blood, and this evil thing in his blood...the only other part left.
