He might be recuperating from a couple of months of unimaginable torture, but he’s not blind.  He sees the way they look at Sam, disgustingly sick admiration in their eyes mixed with fear.  They practically cower before him. 

Sam won’t tell him what he did to get him out of the pit, just says he couldn’t let Dean rot down there and changes the subject.  Dean’s damaged; he’s not stupid.

He throws holy water on Sam one night while he’s sleeping and Sam sits up, laughing.

“I’m not a demon, Dean.”

“No,” Dean murmurs, suddenly its clear. “You’re their king.”
