Every bone, every single piece of him aches as his hands trace sigils and light candles, whispering Latin beneath his breath.  He knows what this will do - to Dean, to Sam - what it will mean for him, but his son is dying in a hospital bed with tubes sticking out of him and John knows.  There is no choice.  There is only what he has to do.

The colt is a heavy weight in his hand, and he could do it, he could end the bastard right fucking now, but he doesn’t. 

He never had any other choice.

Thanks, one part of me feels like John would do anything for his boys, but another part thinks this was probably a really difficult decision for him to make.
