Prompt: Dead in the Water Coda for 100_ghosts
A/n: See, when I was your age, I saw something real bad happen to my mom, and I was scared, too. I didn't feel like talking, just like you.


“Dean? C’mon, buddy.” John kneels down until he’s eye level with Dean.  “Talk to me, kiddo.”

Dean only stares at him, like he’s waiting for John to say something.  John wishes there was something he could say. 

It’s been three months since that night, three months since Dean’s spoken to anyone.  Only, that’s not entirely true.

John listens at night when he’s pretending to be asleep, cracks open one eye to catch Dean climbing over the crib railing to hold Sammy next to him.

“It’s okay, Sammy,” He can hear Dean whispering.  “I won’t ever let nothin’ happen to you.”
