Prompt: blue for [livejournal.com profile] 100_ghosts

Dean stares down at Sam’s lifeless body, skin so pale its nearly translucent, his lips and eyelids tinted dark blue, and the tears stream silently down his face.

“What am I supposed to do, Sammy?” Dean’s desperate voice cracks as he lays his hand over Sam’s, and a the chill of death spreads through him.

Dean knows exactly what he’s supposed to do though  He’s known it ever since Sammy blinked those wide brown eyes at him for the last time and went limp in his arms, his warm blood still coating Dean’s fingers.

He’s got to do his job.

Aiiiieeee! Yes! Well, in the sense that it's like the angst punch. So, does this mean you've gotten through season two? Are you ready to start downloading episodes from season three? *jumps up and down in anticipation*

*breaks*

Sammy is totally Dean's job. The way Dean emphasizes that, over and over again in the show, especially toward the end, kind of made me uncomfortable, like, you know, who calls it a job to love and care for your brother? An admirable responsibility, but not exactly emotional.

With Dean, it is, though. Thanks to John, this is how he thinks, how he structures his thoughts, feelings, responsibilities, and Sam is #1, always has been, out of necessity and out of love. *pets*

Loved this. LOVE that you keep writing Winchesters!! <3

With Dean, it is, though.

This is very true. Painfully so. And he's starting to realize this, too; he's starting to think more for himself, which is so yay! and heartbreaking at the same time, you know?

But when Dean says that protecting Sammy is his job, I don't really get all that annoyed (and I don't think Sam gets especially worked up, either) because Dean's mindset keeps him very task-oriented. For instance, if Nathan were to say that protecting Peter was his job, I don't think it would sit as well. You know?
