Disclaimer: Heroes belongs to Tim Kring, NBC, and other folks who aren’t me. This is for fun only, never profit.

His body aches with it, making him heavy and weak. Every day he feels himself changing a little more. He thinks he’s becoming a different person, but Nathan tells him he’ll always be the dreamy kid staring out the window. Peter doesn’t tell him that he stopped being that kid the day he almost killed millions of people by being stupid enough to trust someone. Peter remembers squeezing the life out of an old friend, harming an innocent man who was only trying to help, raising his hand to Nathan; threatening his brother.

Trust isn’t something Peter is capable of anymore.

Sometimes its so much that Peter feels like the intrinsic darkness inside of him is suffocating him from the inside out, and more often than not he cries out in the middle of the night, wrapped in sweat-soaked sheets and shaking. He reaches out for Nathan as he feels the shadows pulling him under, making him a part of them, chianging him, and he doesn’t realize that he’s screaming until Nathan slaps him across the face, then jerks him forward, crushing Peter against his body.

Nathan doesn’t ask what he’s dreaming about; not anymore. He doesn’t have to. He can see Peter’s eyes darken more and more by the day, notices the way his soft, innocent features have hardened, hides his fear when Peter’s powers evolve and mutate into something different, even more terrifying than before. Nathan doesn’t have to ask why Peter screams in his sleep and clings to Nathan as if he’s trying to keep from falling into an inescapable black hole.

Nathan doesn’t have to ask Peter what his nightmares are about; he has the same ones.

Lol I knowwwwwww. Alas, I have two small children and if I don't get something written in one go, usually it doesn't get finished. I try, really. I do. One day, love. One day. ♥
