So you know when you're watching something and you just KNOW something bad is about to happen and you really just do NOT want to watch it happen, but you CAN'T HELP IT?
And YES, I am watching The Wire for the first time. Hold your BOO YOU WHORE's till the end, plz.
But I'm watching 3x11, right? And Stringer, OH STRINGER BELL. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT YOU. Some of them are horrifying shock and terrifying horror, but then there's Robert's Rules of Order and COLLEGE and glasses and TEA and those shirts you wear with those pants you wear, and the way you say Mo'fuckah. AND I KNOW YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE OR GET REALLY BAD HURT VERY SOON AND I JUST CAN'T WATCH THAT OMG OMG OMG.
*watches anyway*
I guess I just had to say that. You know, come clean or something. *shrug* My mind, it works in perverse, mysterious ways.
And:

Oh God, that hurt. D:

Date: 2010-05-24 03:18 pm (UTC)Okay! But! This is the thing! Because I was incredibly upset, but of course that's also exactly how it has to go. And it's not like you can hate Omar or even Brother Muozone, and you can't hate Avon, either, because he's Avon. I could say this in the post without spoiling everybody and also providing a lot of weird context about the way I think about stories, but I work on Early Modern Drama and revenge tragedy, and the thing that I actually love the most about Stringer is that David Simon knows how to do tragedy right, and String is a classic tragic hero in a revenge tragedy -- bad shit and good shit and all. He's gotta die, and he's gotta die like that. It hurts like hell, but I just have so much respect for the way David Simon tells the story.
Meanwhile, not to blithely recommend myself or anything, but here's my ode to Stringer/McNulty, which you can read now that you've finished S3, if you so choose. (And speaking of, how heartbreaking is McNulty crying over Stringer? GAH.)
