This reminds me of a little conversation I had with my four year old yesterday.
Small Child (carrying a rather large rock. Think, like, a chunk of pavement): Momma, will you help me put this in my pocket?
Me: I...don't think it will fit. What do you need to put a rock in your pocket for anyway.
Small Child: For 'mergencies.
Me: Uh. Okay. Like what emergencies?
Small Child: You know. For if bad people come.
Me (kind of frightened tbh): Ohhkay, I'm keeping the rock.
lol. My life.

And I know what you mean. As a kid, though, I loved my Disney movies to pieces. Sure, they scared me, but I grew up and they're great movies. I think children are either more sensitive/intelligent these days, or something. I'm pretty sure that I didn't think about something bad legitimately happening until I was at least eight. But now... they get so worried and frightened. It's kind of sad, actually.
But yeah, Disney is just kind of scary. I think in their t.v. cartoons at least, they try to make the villain silly to make it easier. Draken is the most loserish bad guy ever. And the guy in Phineas and Ferb is actually kind of sweetly sinister. But even so. It's kind of hard to think that there are a dozen or so, or even one bad guy constantly plotting on how to go about bringing others harm and though they get caught or stopped constantly, they always manage to escape and start over?

This is my 6 - almost 7 - year old. But she's pretty emotional in general. She cried and wanted us to turn the movie off the first time we watched Chicken Little. Because she didn't like how they were picking on him so much. lol
It does kind of suck how they start teaching you from birth basically that hey, there's ALWAYS going to be a villain, kids. And guess what, he usually wins.

Maybe kids would be a little less likely to be depressed by age ten, smoking it off by age thirteen, and drinking life away by sixteen. But I can't really blame media. I doubt things have ever been any better. Unless like, you were one of the kids who got to hear Jesus tell a parable, lol.
But definitely. My nieces are super sensitive. I'm just like, "Woah, hold on... what even happened? How do you even register such empathy? You're a kid!" I just don't get it...

I'm with you on the empathy thing. I'm like "...whut?" Its so strange to watch someone so small have so many emotions.
