I am pretty sure I am going to be a broken person after nine o'clock tonight, jsyk. Anyway.
Season one:
Season Two:
Season Three:
I can't wait to see what tonight's is like. It's kind of my favorite part of the episode.
~Carry On My Wayward Son
The first line, to me, applies to Dean, as the latter obviously applies to Sam. I just feel that Dean's been blind, so to speak, to Sam this season. He never gave Sam a chance, never backed him up. Dean can only see the "monster" in Sam, and I think that's what makes him blind. It's just who he is though, what John trained him to be since he was a tiny boy, all corruptable and easily influenced. Its hard to change what's been ingrained in you for as long as you can remember, by someone you thought was your hero. I think Sam as the "mad man" is quite apparent. Drinking demon blood, hai.
Usually I think about Dean when I hear this line, but at this particular moment, I'm thinking of Sam. From the promos I've seen for the finale, his whole attitude, and some other's meta that I've read, its like Sam is picturing himself as some kind of martyr. Like, he just wants to do this, to kill Lilith, to stop the apocalypse, at whatever cost. Though I doubt there will be peace when he's done. Or for either of them, this season at least. I have no idea what season five has in store, but there BETTER be some peace for our boys by the time this show ends. I don't even care if they go out, guns blazing, as long as they do it together damn it. God, I can't wait for our boys to fix this, IDEK how, I just can't wait for them to do it and it BETTER be epic. Hear me, Eric? Do not think I won't cut a bitch.
This totally applies to both our boys. Both of them think they have a purpose, a reason, and they each think that it's THE reason, THE thing that's going to avert the apocalypse, that they're HELPING each other. And they really just don't know what they're doing at all.

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man

Carry on my wayward son,
For there'll be peace when you are done

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely
means that I don't know

Lay your weary head to rest
Now don't you cry no more
Good luck. May the force be with you. And the Kleenex.

Date: 2009-05-14 07:43 pm (UTC)All throughout seasons one and two, Sam got strangled a lot, and when Dean got whammied hard, it was usually directed at his chest and his heart. I never knew if that was an intentional decision on the writers' parts, but I liked to think it was - Sammy is the brains of the operation, Dean is the heart. Sort of. Anyway, towards the end of season three, that stopped being the rule, and by season four we had, for what I think was the first time EVER, Dean getting strangled (by the noose in the magician episode). And then, in this last episode, Sam strangles Dean for no discernible reason. I'd assumed that the lack of Sam!strangling was Jared having complained about doing strangle noises in ADR and the writers giving him a break... but now I'm not so sure. SHOULD I GIVE THEM MORE CREDIT? IDEK ANYMORE AUUUGH.
