I seriously cried for like two days.

Okay! But! This is the thing! Because I was incredibly upset, but of course that's also exactly how it has to go. And it's not like you can hate Omar or even Brother Muozone, and you can't hate Avon, either, because he's Avon. I could say this in the post without spoiling everybody and also providing a lot of weird context about the way I think about stories, but I work on Early Modern Drama and revenge tragedy, and the thing that I actually love the most about Stringer is that David Simon knows how to do tragedy right, and String is a classic tragic hero in a revenge tragedy -- bad shit and good shit and all. He's gotta die, and he's gotta die like that. It hurts like hell, but I just have so much respect for the way David Simon tells the story.

Meanwhile, not to blithely recommend myself or anything, but here's my ode to Stringer/McNulty, which you can read now that you've finished S3, if you so choose. (And speaking of, how heartbreaking is McNulty crying over Stringer? GAH.)
