"Is this guy for real?" Dani asks as they sign the necessary paperwork to handover the stolen painting they discovered on their last case. She looks up from her desk and squints. "Did you see his hat? I mean, is this guy for real?"

Charlie perks up, stealing a glance across the room. "I like the hat," he grins, watching the dark-haired man twirling it around his finger, much to the annoyance of his partner, Detective Burke.

"You know who he is, right?" Dani lifts her eyebrows and Charlie leans forward, closer to where they're desks are pushed together.

"I heard he's a consultant," he whispers conspiratorially. Dani rolls her eyes and throws a blueberry at him. Charlie catches it in his mouth.

"That is The Neal Caffrey." She says matter-of-factly, like that explains everything. Funny thing is, it does. There's not a cop in the country that hasn't at least heard of Neal Caffrey's famous forgeries.

Charlie lets out a low whistle and looks back over his shoulder. Caffrey is trying to put his hat on Burke's head, but Burke won't allow it. He gives Caffrey a stern look. Charlie recognizes that look. That's the look Dani gives him when he's about to do something stupid, or something she thinks is stupid. Or when he won't let her change the station on the radio. Or when he talks too much.

"He was in prison a whole five days when Burke got him out, got him that job as the FBI's consultant. Nice gig, huh?"

Charlie looks Neal over. The expensive suit, the hat, the charming smile currently charming the pants off of six police officers, including Bobby, that could get him out of even the most impossible situation. He thinks how nice it must be, being guilty and still getting away with it. Charlie narrows his eyes when Neal turns and meets his gaze. He's absolutely gorgeous, Charlie realizes, so maybe it's a good thing he had Burke to rescue him, whisk him away to a safe, domesticated life. Someone like Neal Caffrey wouldn't like five hours in prison, much less five days. Hell, Charlie doesn't think even he would have been able to resist for too long, those eyes and that smile.

"Crews, you still here?" Dani asks. She does that occasionally, checks to make sure he's in this moment and not another one. He does that sometimes, forgets which moment he's in. Its nice to have Reese to remind him where is he is, to ground him.

"I like his hat," Charlie says and finishes his paperwork.
