She found it strange at first, when Neal's file first showed up on Peter's desk and he took to it like this rabid animal, like he had to find this guy or the world was going to end. After that it got worse, chasing Neal across the world, London, Rome, wherever Neal went, Peter followed. She knew how slick this guy was by the way Peter talked about him, and she could tell Neal was playing with him, flirting with him, the way little boys pull on little girls pigtails in kindergarten.
And for a little while she got mad, possibly even jealous of this man taking her husband away from her. She felt neglected, even abandoned at times, even though she knew Peter loved her unconditionally. There had just always been something between him and Neal, some chemistry that kept pulling them together and pushing them apart.
It wasn't until Neal finally let Peter catch him that things fell right into place, the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle nestled between its matching pieces. Perfect. Right at home.
