I like to picture it going down like this too. I just. Every time I think about Dean after Sammy left, all I see is this broken shell, going through the motions, waiting for Sam to come back, CUZ HE HAS TO COME BACK.
Ungh. Just thinking about it hurts me. Like, screw John, Dean had to be going out of his freaking mind, not knowing what Sam was getting into, if he was being careful, if he was keeping in shape so he could protect himself if he needed to. He's the one that protects Sammy and when Sam left, he just couldn't. I can't imagine what it felt like to be torn between his Dad, who raised him to know only this, hunting, killing demons, and his Sammy, the only thing he really loves.
